HTML Metadata Conventions in the SEO Support Plugin

This page describes the HTML metadata conventions implemented by the SEO Support Plugin in Bloomreach Content.

Document Title

Search engines use the page title to index content. Each page must have a unique, concise, and descriptive title.

The SEO Support Plugin generates titles using the following pattern:

SITE TITLE - [ PARENT SITE MENU ITEM NAME ] - [ CONTENT BEAN TITLE ] [: optional KEYWORDS]

SITE TITLE: The site name or title, such as 'Example.com'. Configure this using the site-title component parameter.
[ PARENT SITE MENU ITEM NAME ]: The parent site menu item of the current menu item for the request.
[ CONTENT BEAN TITLE ]: The title property of the current request content bean. If this property is not available, the plugin uses the name of the current site menu item if present.
[: optional KEYWORDS]: The keywords property of the current request content bean, if available.

Dublin Core Metadata Initiative Schema Links

The plugin includes links to the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative schemas in the document head:

<link rel="schema.DCTERMS" href="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" />

You can override these links using the dc-schema-link and dc-terms-link component parameters.

Copyright Link

The SEO Support Plugin can add a standard W3C copyright link element to the head section if you configure the site-dc-copyright-link component parameter.

Keywords Meta Tag

If the current request content bean contains a keywords property, the plugin adds a meta tag with comma-separated keywords:

<meta name="keywords" content="politicians, news, archive">

Description Meta Tag

If the current request content bean contains a description property, the plugin adds a meta tag for the description:

<meta name="description" content="John Doe formally tenders his resignation to the King and leaves Concord Street for the last time.">

Created Date

The DCTERMS.created metadata property records the creation date of the current request content bean. The plugin adds this property automatically in ISO 8601 format if the content bean is based on a hippostdpubwf:document or mix:created node.

Last Modified Date

The DCTERMS.modified metadata property records the last modification date of the current request content bean. The plugin adds this property automatically in ISO 8601 format if the content bean is based on a hippostdpubwf:document or mix:lastModified node.

Language

The DCTERMS.language metadata property records the language of the content.
