Manage Content in a Channel
Overview
You can create, edit, select, and publish content for a channel directly within the channel preview in Bloomreach Content.
Content Management Options
Bloomreach Content supports two main approaches for managing content:
- Use the Content application with the document editor.
- Use the Experience manager application to manage content directly in the channel preview.
This page describes how to perform content management tasks directly in the channel preview.
Managing Content in the Channel Preview
- Open the Experience manager application.
- Select a channel from the overview.
In the toolbar at the top right, you will see an edit icon. Click this icon to toggle the visibility of the Manage Content buttons in the channel preview.

Navigate to the page where you want to manage content. Ensure the document icon is selected in the toolbar.
The Manage Content buttons will appear on the page. Their appearance may vary depending on your Bloomreach Content version.

Some buttons may display additional speed-dial options when you hover over them, allowing you to choose between editing, creating, or selecting content for a single content item.

These options allow you to edit existing content, create new content, or select existing content for a component.
Edit Content
To edit content:
- Click the
Edit Contentbutton for the relevant content item.

A visual editor will slide in from the right:

Edit the content fields as needed.
- Click
Saveto store your changes. - Click
Xto close the editor. If you close the editor without saving, a confirmation dialog appears:

- Select Discard to remove your changes.
- Select Cancel to keep the editor open and continue editing.
After saving, the Save button changes to Publish:

- Users with editor privileges can publish the content directly from the Experience manager.
- Users with author privileges can submit a publication request. After submitting, the document becomes read-only and enters a waiting to be published state:

Authors can cancel the request using the Cancel request button, which makes the document editable again.
Editors or admins can approve or reject publication requests in the document editor. For details, see Publishing a Document.
Visual Editor Toolbar Options
The visual editor toolbar provides the following actions:

![]() | Indicates the document is published and online. Click to view the document in the Content application. |
![]() | Indicates the document is online but has unpublished changes. Click to view the document in the Content application. |

Notes
- Not all field types are editable in the channel preview. Edit unsupported fields in the document editor.
- Changes made in the channel preview are saved as a draft. Drafts persist if you exit or your session expires, allowing you to continue editing after logging in again.
Select Content
To select content for a component:
- Click the magnifying glass button (
Select Content) for the content item.

- The link picker dialog appears.

- Search or browse to the desired document.
- Click the document to select it, then click
OK.
The selected document is now associated with the content item:

Create Content
To create new content for a component:
- Click the
+button (Create Content) for the content item.

v15.4.0+:

- The
Create contentpanel opens from the right.

Enter the document name, type, URL, and folder location. Default values are provided for URL and folder location, but you can modify them.

Click
Continue. The panel updates to display additional fields required for the selected document type.

Info: The
Save as draftfeature is available starting in version 14.3.0.
While editing, you can click Save as draft to save your work and close the editor. Draft content is not visible in the channel preview but can be accessed in the Content application.
If you close the editor and choose Discard while editing an unsaved draft, the new content is deleted and will not be available in the repository or the channel.
- After completing all required fields, click
Save.
Hint: Not all fields for the new document may be available in the channel preview. To access all fields, switch to the content editor.
After saving, click
Save & Done, thenViewin the top navigation menu to return to the website preview.
Saving switches the panel to the visual editing view. The new content appears in the relevant content item in the channel preview:

A warning icon and red outline indicate that the new content is offline.
Info: The Offline document indicator is available starting in version 15.4.0.
Click Publish in the editor to either submit a publication request (author privileges) or publish directly (editor privileges).
Hint: In some cases, new content may not appear immediately on the page if the component displays dynamic content. For example, an event list may only show events within a specific date range; newly created events outside this range will not display.
