Build a Website Tutorial Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while working through the Build a Website tutorial, use the following troubleshooting steps to identify and resolve common problems.

Review Log Files for Errors and Warnings

Log files provide detailed error messages and warnings that can help diagnose issues.
Locate log files in your Bloomreach Content project at:

target/tomcat8x/logs

Inspect Your Browser's JavaScript Console

Modern browsers include a JavaScript console that displays errors and warnings related to scripts.
Open the console to check for client-side issues that may affect website functionality.

Confirm Document Publication

If you updated a document but do not see the changes on your website, verify that you published the document. Unpublished changes will not appear on the live site.

Confirm Channel Publication

If you made changes to a channel in the Experience manager and those changes are not visible on the website, ensure that you published the channel.

Rebuild the Project After Code or Feature Changes

After installing a new out-of-the-box feature or modifying Java code, you must stop, rebuild, and restart your project for the changes to take effect.

To reduce rebuild times during development, consider using JRebel.

Verify Head Contributions

If you implemented head contributions, use your browser's source view or HTML inspector to confirm that the contributions are present in the correct location within the page.

Validate Freemarker Syntax

If you use Freemarker as your templating language, ensure that your syntax is correct. Some documentation examples may use JSP, which has different syntax than Freemarker.
